On the night of May 16-17, the 70th Eurovision Song Contest took place in Vienna, Austria. This year, the competition was won by Dara, an artist representing Bulgaria. Alicja Szemplińska ultimately finished the competition in 12th place. The Polish representative received the highest scores from the jury in over two decades.
This year’s competition was a great success for Bulgaria. After the jury’s points were announced, this country was leading in the classification. After adding the viewers’ votes, Dara with the song “Bangaranga” retained first place, scoring a total of 516 points and ensuring Bulgaria’s victory in the 70th Eurovision Song Contest.
During her performance, Alicja Szemplińska performed the song “Pray”. Her presentation was one of the most awaited moments of the evening by Polish Eurovision fans. The artist’s performance was broadcast live, and viewers could follow it both on television and on the Internet. Our representative’s performance was very positively received. Comments appearing online emphasized not only her strong voice, but also her charisma and self-confidence on stage. In total, the jurors’ votes gave Poland 133 points, which after this part of the voting placed our country in seventh place. In the viewers’ vote, Poland received only 17 points. After adding up both results, Poland finished the competition in twelfth place with a total of 150 points.
The final concert started at 9 p.m. This year, 25 countries competed for victory. Twenty performers advanced to the finals through the semi-finals held earlier in the week. The remaining places went to Austria as the host and four so-called countries. “Big 4”: Germany, France, Great Britain and Italy. These are the largest payers of the European Broadcasting Union and are traditionally guaranteed a place in the final.
Alicja Szemplińska advanced to the final from the first semi-final, which took place on Tuesday, May 12. After the draw, she was assigned to the second half of the final concert, and the producers assigned her the eighteenth starting position.
