Are you looking for a city in Poland that resembles an Italian atmosphere? Among others, it is recognized as such: Zamość or Lublin, compared to Padua. This time, however, we will visit the Masovian gem. This is Pułtusk, as a local Venice.
Pułtusk as the “Venice of Mazovia”
Traveling from Poland to Venice can be expensive, even if you take advantage of an airline promotion. The prices of accommodation are often exorbitant entrance fees to the city. If you are looking for a minimalist alternative to this place in Poland, you can visit Pułtusk.
The Narew River flows through the intimate and atmospheric city, creating canals reminiscent of Venetian ones. Moreover, there are architectural monuments from the Renaissance era. During your walk, you will notice, among others: a castle located on a hill, which is, among others, viewpoint, then you will reach, among others, to the longest cobbled market square in Europe, where you will find restaurants with local delicacies. At the end, it is also worth taking a look at the town hall tower.
The attractions seem interesting to you, but were you expecting a gondola cruise? You can also count on this in the “Venice of Mazovia”. You can sail along the Narew River on a historic boat or catamaran by registering for the attraction in advance – it is possible from May to October.
Italian atmosphere close to Warsaw
Not only a number of attractions, but also its excellent location can encourage you to visit Pułtusk. You will find the town just an hour away by car from the capital of Poland – you only need to cover less than 70 km, heading north from the center of Warsaw towards Nieporęt, Serock or the Narew Rozlewisko.
It is worth remembering that we cannot get there by train, and the nearest railway stations are Nasielsk (33 km), Legionowo (37 km) and Ciechanów (38 km). The place is perfect for a one-day trip, but also as a haven for a weekend or longer rest. It is worth taking advantage not only of the city’s monuments, but also of the surrounding green areas, including the White Forest. Other attractions are: Kuźnia Kurpiowska in Pniewo, Sanctuary of St. Roch in Sadykrz or Bagno Pluwy.
If one “Polish Venice” is not enough for you, it is also worth discovering Kowary with a walking promenade called “Venice of the Karkonosze”. This one is located in Lower Silesia, and in the city you will see 50 different types of bridges and footbridges.
